Our oldest child recently started Kindergarten and our kitchen has quickly become flooded with papers and calendars from school. Amazingly, somehow Alison and I have gotten by without any sort of central family calendar up to this point. But now that the kids are in different schools and involved in their own activities, there is no more winging it…we need a better system to keep up with the craziness. Enter the Copenhaver Family Command Center to the rescue!

The main ingredient of this project is the over-sized calendar in the middle. But we needed more. So, to keep everything together in one spot, we added some file holders and some custom built mail organizers. You can never have enough storage, so we also added some hanging bins to keep up with all the office supplies that seem to keep disappearing from our kitchen.

The supplies list for this project is pretty simple. The wood came from a single reclaimed pallet. We picked up the metal bin and pails from Michaels and the file holder from Amazon. See below for links to the exact products in the Materials List.

This was more of an assembly project than a build project, so I thought it would be a good chance to shoot my first video. I didn’t prepare any build plans for this project, but drop me a note in the comments section below if you have any questions about the build and I’ll be happy to share more about the steps, measurements and materials!

PS – remember, this is my first attempt at video so try not to laugh too hard! For now, it’s just a man and his tripod, but I’ll try to get some better equipment/lighting as we progress. Enjoy!
