Do you enjoy building things with your own hands? I do! I just love the sense of satisfaction that comes from bringing an idea, an inspiration, or drawing to life by handcrafting a well-thought-out design. As a kid, I remember playing with Lincoln Logs, then Tinker Toys, and eventually graduating to an Erector Set. There was just something magical and rewarding about making an idea come to life with my own hands.

As an adult, that fascination still resides within me, but now takes shape in the form of DIY projects. I am grateful to share this passion with my wife and partner, Alison. She’s got the same bug. Our date nights probably look a little different than most…it’s not uncommon that they conclude with a trip to Home Depot or the local thrift store in search of materials for our next project. Not very glamorous, but we love it!

After completing a project or building something new to furnish or decorate the house, I often hear from family and friends that they too would like to undertake a similar project, but didn’t know where to start.  I have always wanted to help, but didn’t have a good way to share all the knowledge I had accumulated by reading & watching tutorials, researching materials and most importantly, figuring out the steps to follow – until now!

Copewood was created to share what we have learned tackling a wide array of DIY projects, so that you too might be inspired and gain the confidence to build something you can be proud of. Our design plans will primarily focus on building wooden furniture and home decor items that capture the memories of a growing family. We have 2 kids, Carson & Catelyn, so this is where most of my woodworking time has been spent recently. But I’m a fan of anything that adds value or character to a home, so there may be some special projects that pop up occasionally as well!

I’ll be posting step-by-step project plans and lots of pictures for each build, so swing by often to see if any of the designs look right for your home! Feel free to chat with me in the comments section below each post if you have any questions about the plan or ideas for future projects at Copewood!
